Board Member reelections

Please be informed that the during the next General Assembly of EELA that will take place on 8 June 2013 in Antwerp during the EELA Conference, there will be Board Member reelections regarding the following countries which are currently represented on the Board:

- Czech Republic
- Finland
- Hungary
- Ireland
- Norway
- Poland
- Switzerland
- The Netherlands

In addition, the Board supports the idea of broadening representation by having elections for those countries that are currently not represented in the Board, but have a certain number of EELA members. This applies to:

- Bulgaria
- Latvia
- Romania
- Slovakia

If you are from one of these countries and if you want to stand for election or reelection please submit your candidacy in writing to the chairman of the EELA Board (info@eela.org) no later than 11 May 2013. Your application should be supported by a curriculum vitae, a statement in support of your candidacy and preferably a photograph.

Finally, it is important to know that all expenses related to Board membership are covered by the Board Members themselves. EELA does not cover any such expenses. Most importantly the expenses include travel to two or three Board meetings per year.

EELA and ERA

EELA proudly announces that it has signed a cooperation agreement with the Academy of European Law (ERA) based in Trier (Germany). The main purpose of that exciting partnership is the cooperation on training projects on the one hand and the cooperation on ERA conferences on the other hand.

EELA will keep you informed about all its future projects involving ERA. Please finally note that in the framework of that partnership EELA members shall be granted a regular 25% discount on the participation fee for ERA conferences.

EELA Board Members

The Board of EELA has decided to fill the existing vacant positions on the Board.

According to the EELA Constitution each country should have a representative on the Board. They are elected by the General Assembly. However, the Constitution also allows the Board to coopt Members.

Currently the following countries do not have a representative on the Board:

- Bulgaria
- Hungary (existing Board Member – Akos Fehrvary has recently resigned)
- Iceland
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia

If you are from one of these countries, you are kindly requested to volunteer to become your country's representative on the EELA Board. Where there will be one candidate from the respective country he or she will be coopted to the Board and will be invited to attend the next Board meeting which will take place in Brussels on 17 September 2012. Please kindly submit your application to EELA before 15 August 2012 to the following address : info@eela.org.

The coopted board members will be requested to stand for "normal" election by the General Assembly during the conference in Antwerp on 8 June 2013.

You are welcome to liaise with your local colleagues and EELA members and decide on whom from your country would be put forward as a unique candidate for the cooptation to the Board.

Where by 15 August 2012 there will be more than one candidate from the respective country, the Board will not coopt a Member. The candidates will be welcome to stand for election during the next General Assembly.

Also, please be informed that the term of the board members listed below will expire at the next General Assembly (end of term or resignation), so if you are from one of these countries you are welcome to stand for election or reelection as your country's representative .

The board members and countries concerned are :

- Natasa Randlova: Czech Republic
- Petteri Uoti: Finland
- Lars Holo: Norway
- Bartłomiej Raczkowski: Poland
- Ueli Sommer: Switzerland
- Els de Wind: The Netherlands

New EELA website now live!

Dear EELA members,

I am very happy to welcome you to the new EELA website: easy to use, bright and clear, and not to forget NEW!

Please do use the website and check it regularly for news and information, more specifically on the conferences. You can already find information on the website on the upcoming Dublin Conference to be held on 11 and 12 May 2012.

The editions of EELC magazine can be read on the website, downloaded and printed from the website. Today, edition EELC 2011-3 was placed on the site. We will place all earlier editions of EELC magazine on the website. I encourage each of you to share with the other EELA-members interesting news and judgments in your jurisdiction with a European dimension. Please feel free to send in case reports on such judgments and on judgments of the European Court of Justice to EELC magazine at eelc@sdu.nl.

New Chair and Vice Chair EELA Board!

After Els de Wind had informed the EELA Board that she would not stand for a second term as Chair, elections were held during the Board meeting on 10 October 2011 last. Guy Castegnaro of Luxembourg will be the new Chair. Guy served as Vice-Chair during the last two years. Claire Toumieux of France will be Vice-Chair.
"I have had great pleasure in being EELA’s Chair the past years and I am happy to see things moving ahead. I am convinced that with Guy and Claire EELA will continue moving in the right direction to keep pace with the developments in the world around us. See you all soon."
